Paul Haenle served as special assistant to US National Security Advisors Condoleezza Rice and Stephen Hadley. Paul was the White House Director for China, Taiwan, and Mongolia Affairs on the National Security Council staffs of President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama. He holds the Maurice R. Greenberg Director’s Chair at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and is a visiting senior research fellow at the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore.

In this episode, Paul and Don talk about the rise of China as a global economic and military superpower. They discuss President Xi Jinping’s consolidation of power and future as China’s leader.
